Eco-Friendly Romanian Wines: Sustainable Choices for Belgium's Wine Bars
As sustainability becomes a priority for more and more consumers, wine bars in Belgium are looking to offer eco-friendly options that align with these values. At WineLion, we're excited to introduce you to a collection of organic Romanian wines from Aurelia Vișinescu, a winemaker who not only honours Romania's rich winemaking traditions but also leads the way in sustainable, organic practices.
If you're searching for wines that combine environmental responsibility with exceptional quality, Aurelia Vișinescu's organic wines are an ideal addition to your wine list.
Why Choose Romanian Wine?
Romania may not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of wine, but it is definitely worth exploring. With over 4,000 years of winemaking history, Romania ranks among Europe's most exciting wine-producing regions. From its indigenous grape varieties like Fetească Albă to its unique terroir, Romania has so much to offer.
For Belgian wine lovers looking for something a little different, Romanian wines are a breath of fresh air. They combine old-world craftsmanship with modern winemaking techniques, and when you add sustainable practices into the mix, you're left with wines that are not only delicious but also better for the planet.
Organic Practices that Make a Difference
At WineLion, we're proud to offer a selection of organic wines from Aurelia Vișinescu's range, crafted with care and attention to sustainability. These wines are made using organic, ecological farming techniques, using minimal fertilisers and avoiding insecticides or excessive spraying.
Aurelia Vișinescu keeps the use of Bordeaux mixture (allowed in organic farming) to combat grey rot, to a bare minimum. Their philosophy is that vines should build their own natural immunity to diseases, much like humans with antibiotics. While she has experienced setbacks - such as losing an entire harvest to rot - her vines are now healthier compared to conventional vineyards in the area.
Today, all of the red grape varietals are produced organically, with her first bio-certified crop in 2021. By 2023, she expanded her organic certification to include white varietals, such as Fetească Albă and Chardonnay.
Before being fully certified as organic, the grapes undergo a 3-year conversion period. As such, by 2025, all Aurelia Visinescu's red grapes will be organically certified.
Let's take a closer look at the organic wines available today at WineLion:
Nomad - Fetească Albă: This crisp and fresh white wine showcases the elegance of one of Romania's most cherished grape varieties, Fetească Albă. Light, floral, and easy to drink, it's perfect for warm afternoons or as a delightful pairing with seafood.
Nomad - Rosé: Crafted with organic grapes, this rosé is fresh and vibrant, balancing flavours of red berries with a hint of minerality. Whether you're serving it with a light summer salad or enjoying it on its own, it's a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.
Promessa - Rosé: With aromas of wild strawberries and raspberries, this rosé bursts with flavour while maintaining a delicate balance. Made from organically grown grapes, it's an ideal choice for those looking for a fresh, fruit-forward wine with an eco-friendly stamp.
When you choose organic wines, you're choosing wines that respect both nature and tradition. Aurelia Vișinescu takes several important steps to ensure her wines are as eco-friendly as they are delicious/
These eco-friendly practices aren't just about protecting the environment—they also ensure that the wine in your glass is a pure reflection of the vineyard and the land. You can truly taste the care and respect that goes into each bottle.
